WITNESSING a car accident was the catalyst for Orange Grove Primary School’s recent trip to the new Constable Care Safety School.
Students from years 3 to 6 visited the safety school in Maylands, which teaches children road safety skills in a realistic urban environment.
It is said to be WA’s most exciting outdoor primary school excursion destination.

READ NOWTeacher Julie Reed said some of the students saw a classmate get hit by a car earlier this year, which prompted their visit.
“It really freaked the students out, that was our instigator for coming here to learn road safety,” she said.
“They’ve seen first-hand how accidents can happen in a blink of an eye, so it’s important they learn to not get distracted.”
While one group of students learnt how to navigate the roads on bicycles, another group acted as pedestrians.
They learnt to safely interact with hazards such as oncoming cars or fallen power lines, which were simulated using gaming-style augmented reality.
