Pair to face court on theft charges

Staff ReporterComment News

A Range Rover, containing allegedly stolen goods, was recovered and a 16-year-old boy arrested and charged with burglary, theft of cars and receiving stolen goods.

A man and woman, alleged to be behind the spate of burglary and thefts, had been living in hotels before police arrested them following the theft of a BMW and the Range Rover from an empty Cottesloe house on January 6.

‘They were in rooms and staying in various accommodation in the metropolitan area, which made it hard to track them down,’ Vehicle Crime Unit Detective Sergeant Steve Coelho said.

It is alleged from mid-October the pair targeted unoccupied shops, restaurants and cafes in the spree, with cash, jewellery, iPods and computers among the items stolen in raids across Perth.

Last Wednesday, they were arrested in the BMW while leaving an East Perth hotel, after allegedly being involved in a series of at least eight burglaries at commercial premises in the western suburbs overnight on January 6.

The woman (20), of no fixed address, was remanded in custody after being charged with 17 counts of aggravated burglary, four counts of stealing a car and 18 counts of stealing among other charges.

The man (28), of no fixed address, is charged with 25 counts of aggravated burglary, five counts of car theft, 27 counts of stealing and 11 fraud charges among other charges.

The pair will appear in Perth Magistrates Court on February 6.
