About 2.45pm last Wednesday, Canning Vale officers patrolling the suburb saw a ute parked in a Yale Road driveway with a man they recognised in the driver’s seat, a WA Police spokesman said.

The officers confirmed that he had two outstanding arrest warrants and tried to arrest him, but he allegedly sprayed one of them in the face with the liquid before winding up the window and driving off, hitting the police car in the process.

Officers seized the ute later, from where it was abandoned at another Thornlie house linked to the man.

He was not there, but Armadale Detectives found and arrested him in the suburb on Thursday. He appeared at Armadale Magistrates Court on Friday on charges including breach of bail, reckless driving, wounding, assault with intent to prevent arrest and committing acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm or prevent arrest. He was remanded in custody and is due to appear again today.

The officer was treated in hospital.
