Perth: Former volleyball coach charged with child sex offences

THE chief coach of a Perth-based volleyball club has been charged over a series of alleged sexual offences against a 16-year-old player.

Sex Assault Squad detectives say the victim, a 16-year-old girl, met the 38-year-old man during volleyball coaching sessions this month.

The southern suburbs man was the chief coach of the club at the time of the incidents.

He has been charged with eight counts of sexual penetration of a child over 16 under his authority, and three counts of attempted sexual penetration of a child over 16 under his authority.

The investigation is ongoing and detectives have urged anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or make a report online.

The man will appear before the Perth Magistrates Court today.
