Pet fee levels set not to hit unduly those on low pay

Staff ReporterComment News

New cat registration fees and increased dog registration fees were introduced by the State Government effective from November 1.

The changes come after a review of registration fees under the Dog Act 1976 and the determination of registration fees under the Cat Act 2011.

The amendments to dog registration fees and the new cat registration fees factor in the principles of user pays, social fairness to encourage registration and minimise non-compliance, and affordability so that fees are set at a level that will not unduly add to the cost of owning a pet for low-income earners.
