A MOTHER cat and her kitten, called Piara and Harris, are looking for a new home after they were found on the side of a road in Piara Waters recently.
The cats were rescued and are being temporarily looked after by local resident Lee Barber and his housemate Bram Kraaijeveld.
Mr Barber said a Facebook page was set up to help raise money to pay for the cats’ veterinary bills and the response had been overwhelmingly positive.
“Several people came down to help search for more kittens and lots of people offered cat food, items and monetary help,” he said.
“Many people offered to foster or adopt the cats.
“We named the mother Piara and the son Harris due to the community response on the Piara Waters and Harrisdale Facebook page.
“They’re currently living in our house being cared for by myself and my housemates.
“The mother is much happier and gives us lots of cuddles.
“The kitten is very healthy and has grown a lot.”
Mr Barber is looking after the cats while he searches for their owner.
“If we can’t find the original owner, we may end up adopting the cats ourselves, or adopting them out,” he said.
“We have lots of volunteers for adoption so we’re certain they’re going to end up in a loving forever-home.”
He has so far raised $300 to help cover medical costs, but needs about $1000 to pay all the bills, with any extra funds going to the Cat Haven.
