The precinct next to Gosnells train station is vital to the council’s strategy to beautify the area, and the plan will pave the way to council being able to take over land that private landholders have proved reluctant to develop.
Mayor Dave Griffiths said over time the area had declined to the point at which it was having a detrimental impact on the entire town centre.
He said the plan aimed to capitalise on modern planning principles of creating vibrant urban communities around public transport hubs by making the area home to business, residential, retail, dining and cultural spaces that promoted activity.
