Body found in search for missing swimmer

POLICE divers have recovered a body from the Champion Lakes Regatta Centre after a swimmer went missing last night.

About 6.15pm last night, police were called to the centre in relation to a missing 26-year-old male swimmer.

Specialist divers from Water Police attended the scene this morning.

Police said they’ve found the body of a deceased man believed to be the swimmer at about 9.10am today.

“Family members have been advised and a report will be prepared for the coroner,” a WA Police spokesperson said.

It is believed the man entered the water and, after swimming a short distance from the shore, he failed to resurface.

Members of the public conducted a search of the area and were unable to find him.
