PREMIER Mark McGowan says a $2 million upgrade to Canning Vale College was important given the area’s growth.

Mr McGowan, Education Minister Sue Ellery and Southern River MLA Terry Healy visited the school to unveil artists’ impressions of the planned upgrades this morning.

The upgrades, part of last year’s State Budget, include a boardroom extension, construction of a new student services wing and five new multi-courts for sport.

The Premier said the upgrades were vital, given the school’s need to cater for Canning Vale and its neighbouring suburbs’ growth.

“This school has been around for about 14 years, it’s still relatively new, but the growth in this area means we’re happy to deliver those important improvements,” he said.

“It’s a growing school, a growing area, but catering for that growth reaffirms what this government is all about.”

Construction is expected to begin later this year, with the upgrades due to be completed by May 2019.
