Relocation decision on council agenda

Staff ReporterComment News

The club applied for a Department of Sport and Recreation grant, but a one-third contribution must come from council. In a late item submitted by councillor John Erron, officers said when preparing the grant application, the Byford and Districts Country Club committed to council it would make an ex gratia contribution to the shire which was the equivalent of one third.

The club appeared to withdraw the offer and requested council fund up to $440,000 from its own revenue.

Stephen White, who is part of the relocation committee, said the final outcome of the DSR grant would not be known until February. He said the previous council refused to allocate funds to the project, and DSR was not happy with the ex gratia payment arrangement, which the club last week had not withdrawn, but would do so if council contributed.
