Renaming of Canning Vale road divides residents

Road renaming is proving contentious.

CANNING Vale residents are divided over the scheduled re-naming of Fraser Road and Fraser Road North.

From July 1, Fraser Road North in the City of Gosnells will be known as Boardman Road and the part of Fraser Road in the City of Canning will be renamed Candeloro Road.

The name change was mooted after residents reported on-going difficulties with deliveries, in addition to confusion experienced by emergency services.

Reaction from Fraser Road North residents has been mixed, with some welcoming the change and others frustrated at having to change their address.

Mohen Krishnan said he thought it was a good idea.

“I don’t have any issue because I think they have reason for it because of the emergency services and also I have received mail which was meant to go to the other Fraser Road a couple of times,” he said.

“Initially it may cause some problems and inconvenience, but if it is needed do it.”

Chamalika Mohottigedona said while it had been tiresome to change her address, she supported the decision.

“They’ve changed it because they want to make it easier, so we don’t have any issues with that,” she said.

But Hazel Wood was annoyed at the streets changing names.

“I haven’t heard from a lot of people who I have notified I’ve moved. I’ve had to tell work, the tax people,” she said.

Wendy Forrester moved in last October and described the decision as a “pain.”

“I’ve had to call everybody again, plus I’m running my business,” she said.

“I probably have to call 20 or 30 people to change my address, but I’ve got no choice.”
