READY, set, sing – local students came together at Senior Dale Fest this month to share their love of music.

Schools sang their own choice of song, community songs and a round taught in a workshop session on the day, with all the numbers revolving around a ‘Dreaming’ theme.

Willandra Primary School’s item was a Noongar language version of Advance Australia Fair, followed by We Are Australian with a Noongar chorus.

Music specialist teacher Jane Nicholas said it gave Aboriginal students a chance to sing with their school friends while sharing their culture.

One student had said it felt like “we are all together”.

Ten schools shared the stage at this year’s event, a fixture on local music class calendars for the past 30 years.

Armadale Primary School music specialist teacher Bree Hartley said it was fantastic to bring all the students together.

“It brings immense joy to the students. You can see it on their faces when you are out the front conducting them,” she said.
