GOODBYE Serpentine Jarrahdale Grammar School; say hello to Court Grammar School.

The high school has announced the name change to recognise former premiers Sir Charles and Richard Court.

When discussing the name change, the school wanted to recognise a prominent Western Australian and decided on the Court family. Sir Charles’ son and Richard’s brother Ken currently sits on the school board.

The school’s board chair David Gossage said the school was not changing its values, but recognising it had reached the next stage in its journey.

“We (the Board) looked for visionary leadership that touches all members of our community, we looked into our past and to those who worked tirelessly to ensure we actually made it this far,” he said.

“We looked for people who were known locally, nationally and internationally and decided on the Court family.

“They’re not a particular person, but the name is well known and recognised in WA, giving us two Premiers and now our Australian Ambassador to Japan through Richard.”
