THE Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale has given its support to a proposal to rename Shorthorn Circuit in Byford.

Willis Drive, Curren Way and Gallon Drive were the three names in order voted unanimously by the Shire’s councillors at the last council meeting last year.

The main reason for the change of name, according to council minutes, was the renaming of the portion of Shorthorn Circuit extending to the east.

It would prevent the need to renumber 14 established and five vacant lots on the initial length of Shorthorn Circuit before the second stage of the subdivision.

The full extent of Shorthorn Circuit was not provided as part of the first stage of subdivision.

In accordance with the Land Administration Act 1997, the Minister for Lands has delegated the responsibility for road name approval to Landgate.

One of the requirements for a road name application under the Geographic Names Committee policy is the support of the relevant local government.
