Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale to pay City of Rockingham $450,000 to use landfill

Council recently |endorsed entering into an agreement with the City of Rockingham for the disposal of municipal waste.

The move is an interim measure for now, because the planned Rivers Regional Council facility has been delayed and is still several years from opening.

Formal notification of the Shale Road closure was given in June but the shire has been aware of its pending closure since 2008 and was looking |forward to the new |Rivers Regional Council waste disposal facility opening.

The Shale Road landfill facility will close on November 30.

Shire president John Erren said both the City of Armadale and the City of Rockingham waste |disposal facilities are open to the public and are near the shire.

“In addition, the shire will be continuing with its annual bulk and green waste collections,” Cr Erren said.
