AS children all around the state prepare for their first day back at school next week , some local students will get to enjoy the experience at a brand new school.

Two new primary schools will open their doors for the first time tomorrow, Southern Grove Primary School in Southern River and Aspiri Primary School in Piara Waters.

Both schools will cater to kindergarten and pre-primary students in 2018, expanding through to include Years 1 to 6 in 2019.

Southern Grove principal Rebecca Burns said they currently had more than 80 students enrolled to start at the school next week.

“It is an amazing opportunity to be a foundation principal at a brand new school and I certainly feel very privileged to have this opportunity,” she said.

“Our students are fortunate to be the foundation students at a brand new school with dynamic staff, fabulous nature play areas and state of the art technology.

“I hope our students will develop a love of learning as a result of our personalised teaching and learning programs and can become confident, independent learners.”

Southern River MLA Terry Healy said Southern Grove would ease pressure on existing local primary schools.

“This school promises to become the heart of the local area, with a strong sense of community and excellent facilities to ensure local kids get the best possible education,” he said.
