The talented youngsters have been selected to represent the state at this year’s National Basketball Championships, which will be held in August at the WA Basketball Centre in Floreat.

Doran and Vuleta, who attend schools in the readership area, are completing year six and have been training around the clock to qualify for one of 10 positions in the state team.

The girls, both currently playing for the Willetton Tigers U13s side, will begin training two days a week in the lead-up to the August play offs.

Doran’s mother Joanne said she was extremely proud to see her daughter selected for the squad after watching her put in the hard yards.

‘Sophie was so excited when she found out she had been selected and both girls were over the moon to be a part of this year’s team,’ she said.

‘Sophie is just taking one step at a time, but I think both girls dream of one day pursuing a basketball career.’ To be selected, the girls were required to attend several trials in Girrawheen.

The selection process started with 60 young hopefuls, with every trial narrowing it down further to the final 10 players.
