State Govt support of West Mundijong Industrial Area a ‘vote of confidence’: Shire President

Ben SmithComment News

SHIRE of Serpentine Jarrahdale President Michelle Rich says the State Government’s support of the West Mundijong Industrial Area (WMIA) is a “vote of confidence” in the area.

The State Government announced plans for the new industrial hub on the land bound by the Kwinana Freight Rail Line to the north, the proposed Tonkin Highway to the east, Mundijong Road to the south and Kargotich Road to the west.

The government expects the industrial area to be a key long-term link to Inner Harbour and the future Outer Harbour development.

Cr Rich said the hub represented the State Government’s faith in the Shire and would allow them to capitalise on the region’s location and growth.

“We see the WMIA becoming one of the state’s premier industrial estates over the next decade,” she said.

“It has capacity for 880 industrial lots and will allow the Shire to flourish as a major industrial and logistics hub.”

Cr Rich said the new hub would provide a significant economic boost to the Shire.

“It will create thousands of local jobs, improve connectivity with ports in Fremantle, Kwinana and Bunbury and deliver widespread economic benefits that will ultimately flow back into the community.”

“It provides a rapidly growing population with local employment opportunities, allowing residents to work closer to home and shortening their daily commute.

“For residents and new businesses to the area, the creation of local jobs and greater economic diversity will further add to the sense of vibrancy and optimism that exists within the Shire.”
