Student artwork features in new storybook

TWO local primary school students have had their artwork immortalised in a new picture book.

As part of Therapy Focus’s annual art competition, more than 5300 students from around WA submitted their artistic creations for Sean E Avery’s new storybook, If I Met a Baboon Who Lost His Balloon.

Beckenham Primary School’s Dieon Carl Dino and Gibbs Street Primary School’s Lennard Adhiwishnu were two of just 21 artworks chosen for the book and will feature on page four and eight respectively.

Mr Avery said the story encouraged readers to be kind and understanding to others.

“In a digital world where people are feeling more lost and lonely than ever before, I feel it’s so important to help remind people that they matter,” he said.

“Drawing pictures to compliment words is a wonderful way to deepen understanding.

“I’m always excited to see the many different ways kids interpret words and themes like inclusion in a story.”

Each winner was given a framed copy of their original artwork, a copy of the published book and a prize pack.

A copy of If I Met a Baboon Who Lost His Balloon will also be given to every primary school in WA.
