Sophie MooreComment News

THE Dale Little Athletics Centre in Armadale had its distinctive quad bike stolen during a break-in overnight on Friday, January 13.

Police were called after thieves broke into the equipment shed at Gwynne Park, stealing valuable items including the club’s PA amplifier and wireless microphone receiver, weighted javelins and four, 3m x 3m shade tents.

The quad bike was a modified Polaris 400 model no longer sold in Australia.

Dale Little Athletics Chairman David Bevis said the club had insurance but the quad bike was irreplaceable.

“Weekend competition ran overtime without the bike to shift heavy equipment and ferry organisers around the meet,” he said.

“We [also] had sites without shade tents and with sports like high jump, where the kids are waiting to take turns, the last jumper can be standing out waiting in the sun for an hour or so,” he said.

“That’s not what we want.”

The club was thankful for a karaoke machine supplied as a substitute PA system by the father of one of the competitors.

Mr Bevis said he doesn’t understand why anyone would want to steal from a kids’ sports club.

“We’re all volunteers here,” he said

“There’s a joke we say, ‘I’m paid as much as the next person.’”

Anyone with any information is urged to call WA Police on 131 444.
