Thornlie couple want to help

Jaclyn and Beau Lindau have planned a fundraiser for Ben and Alex Gibbs, who received daughter Elaina’s type 1 spinal muscular atrophy diagnosis three months ago.

The fatal genetic disease affects spinal cord and brain stem cells that supply messages to muscle cells, causing them to waste away.

Mrs Lindau said the parents had watched Elaina deteriorate rapidly and had now taken her to Queensland so their family could help care for her.

‘Her chances of celebrating her first birthday are very slim,’ Mrs Lindau said.

‘Elaina’s parents have thrown her a seven-month-old birthday.’

The Lindaus are holding a function and silent auction in Northbridge next month to help their friends cherish the time they have left.

‘We want Ben and Alex to not have to worry about the financial burden on top of losing their precious baby girl,’ Mrs Lindau said.

They have titled the night Ride for Elaina, a reference to the two fathers who spent time motocross racing together.

Mr Lindau thanked the businesses and community groups involved so far for their donations.
