GOSNELLS and Thornlie are Perth’s worst suburbs for home burglary insurance claims.

The RAC have revealed those two topped their list of most frequent burglary claims with 75 each in 2017, beating out Morley (72), Dianella (57) and Balga (54).

Suburbs in a close proximity to Gosnells and Thornlie were also amongst the worst-hit, with Canning Vale (44), Armadale (38) and Maddington (37) featuring highly on the list.

RAC home claims manager Glen Walker said it was the second year in a row Gosnells held top spot, while Thornlie had moved up from third place last year.

“We tend to see the same suburbs dominate our claims data, with Gosnells, Thornlie and Morley consistently ranking highly in RAC’s burglary claims analysis,” he said.

Mr Walker said jewellery continued to be the number one item lifted from people’s homes, along with portable devices, such as iPads and laptops, as well as tools and bikes.

“Thieves are opportunistic in nature and take anything portable within arm’s reach in about 30 seconds, so make sure expensive, easily portable items are secured properly,” he said.

“Our advice is to always lock your doors and windows and maintain your security standards even when you are home.”
