Ultimate Challenge Voyage: Roleystone woman pushed to the limit aboard STS Leeuwin II

Jessica NicoComment News

A ROLEYSTONE woman recently found herself one of a lucky few to experience five days at sea aboard the STS Leeuwin II.

Corrina Smart was on the tall ship to experience its four-night 2018 Ultimate Challenge Voyage along the WA coast, a trip specifically for young people living with disability and support staff.

The 21-year-old said everyone on board was expected to help with the running of the ship, including setting sails, navigating, steering, climbing masts and keeping watch at night.

“It was an awesome experience and although I felt a bit seasick most of the time, everyone on board pushed each other to try hard and that kept me going,” she said.

“I managed to climb to the top of the second mast, and it was wonderful to feel so free.”

Leeuwin Ocean Adventure Foundation chief executive Carol Shannon said the Ultimate Challenge voyage was the only one of its kind in the state.

Ms Smart took part in the Ultimate Challenge voyage with the support of Anglicare WA’s Bridges Disability Service.
