WA behind Tassie in road fatalities

Staff ReporterComment News

The area had the second-highest number of deaths in metropolitan WA ” the East Metropolitan police district had 18.

The road toll of 162 was the lowest since records began in 1962.

Road Safety Minister Liza Harvey said this meant WA had finally lost its title of worst State in the nation and now sat ‘uncomfortably’ behind Tasmania in second-worst place.

‘While having 20 fewer deaths than in 2012 and 43 fewer deaths than 2008 is a heartening achievement, it is very difficult to be pleased with a road toll that shows 162 people died on Western Australian roads,’ she said.
