West Mundijong to become industrial hub

Ben SmithComment News

WEST Mundijong is set to become an business hub after the State Government green-lit a new industrial area.

The planned site is bound by the Kwinana Freight Rail Line to the north, the proposed Tonkin Highway to the east, Mundijong Road to the south and Kargotich Road to the west.

Given its proximity to Fremantle, the government expects the industrial area to be a key long-term link to Inner Harbour and the future Outer Harbour development.

The Metropolitan Region Scheme Amendment 1298/41 has changed the zoning from rural to industrial and Minister for Planning Rita Saffioti approved Amendment 187 to the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale’s Town Planning Scheme to facilitate detailed planning of the land.

Premier Mark McGowan said he was enthusiastic about the project given the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale’s rapid growth.

“Creating jobs close to where people live is an important aspect of a strong community,” he said.

“Byford’s population has sky-rocketed in the last decade and it’s only right that we plan for future employment hubs.”
