Gunman on the run after drive-by shooting

A GUNMAN is on the run after a late night drive-by shooting in Byford.

Police said a group of people were standing outside a house on Plaistowe Boulevard when a car drove past.

An occupant in the car fired a weapon several times, shooting a 19-year-old man in the leg.

Local police and officers from the Gang Crime Squad are investigating the shooting.

A police spokesman confirmed police were called to a residence in Plaistowe Boulevard, Byford in relation to several shots being fired.

“A group of people were outside a residence on Plaistowe Boulevard when it is believed a vehicle drove past them,” he said.

“It has been reported to police that an occupant of the vehicle fired a weapon several times, with a projectile striking a man, who is believed to be 19-years-old, in the leg.

“Police attended the scene and the injured man was taken to hospital. His injuries are not life-threatening.”
