Authority denied

I AM greatly disappointed that in the Comment News February 9 edition MP Peter Abetz puts a lot of blame on parents for the misdemeanours of their children.

His lack of logic amazes me as the authority of the parents over their children was taken away in his lifetime by the Government outlawing any form of physical or mental punishment by the parents to the children.

I have met and heard parents whose young teenage children did not like the limitations put on them by their parents.

They went to a government agency and there quickly received alternative accommodation and financial help.

The problem is that people are like Pavlov’s dogs, they need to be trained to give the proper response.

However, many are no longer properly trained with punishment and as a result often react violently against it when the authorities use it on them.

Besides, taking the rights and duties of the citizens away is the first step towards a dictatorship.
