IN reply to Alf Campbell of Beckenham in last week’s edition, there is no way to quantify how many lives random breath tests, double demerits, increased fines, speed cameras and licence suspensions have saved.

Nearly all of the road deaths are preventable. People die whilst speeding, fatigued, driving recklessly or drunk.

No matter how well-funded the road safety industry is, it did not let these deaths occur.
