Ever-increasing restrictions hurting veterans

Our veterans have been forgotten, neglected and short-changed.
Our veterans have been forgotten, neglected and short-changed.

I AM a Department of Veteran Affairs Gold Card recipient (TPI). Many people would have been surprised at the reported number of serving and former military personnel who committed suicides just in the past 12 months.

Caring people would be dismayed if figures were disclosed of the number of former Service personnel who have ended their lives since the Vietnam War.

The Department of Veteran Affairs does a great job assisting veterans. However, it’s being hampered by the Federal Government’s ever-increasing restrictions of entitlements, privileges, benefits (call them what you will).

It may be a good idea if at the beginning and end of each sitting of Parliament, MPs be required to recite the Oath to the Fallen, with particular reference to Lest We Forget, because our Government has most definitely forgotten – except of course on commemorative occasions when ministers are front and centre for the TV cameras.
