Fire fears

MAX MARGETTS, KelmscottComment News

Apart from the concerns I have about the loss of landscape diversity and the loss of yet another local fruit growing community to urban sprawl, I see serious consequences arising from placing residential development in what has until now been a de facto chain of strategic fire breaks that separate fire-prone bush from the highly vulnerable community of Roleystone.

In addition to the elimination of ground fuels and spatial separation afforded by the existing orchards, rows of irrigated, deciduous fruit trees also provide a barrier to the passage of uncontrolled bushfires.
