FUTURE FEARS

Staff ReporterComment News

In an address last year to the Institute of Economic Affairs in London, Opposition Treasurer Joe Hockey said “This is the end of an era of popular entitlements”.

He stated that to build infrastructure, public education and health for growth was a public sector equivalent of the much-maligned Ponzi schemes.

What he overlooks is that the sovereign debt problems we are seeing in Europe and the United States are the outcome of corporate greed, not the entitlement to workers who fought two world wars and then gave their lives to their families and country.

We are witnessing riots in the streets of Europe over austerity measures that are creating unemployment and despair.
