It’s our money

A COUPLE of weeks ago I read in the local paper that the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale rates would be rising by 7 per cent this year.

The following week I read that the shire was using ratepayers’ money to fund a court case to fight the merger of councils.

This week we got our rates bill and they have increased $391.58. This is more than double the increase of the year before. As ratepayers, we think it is wrong that the shire is spending rates money on this court case. Is this the real reason for the big jump in our rates?

All the shire is succeeding in doing is making it unaffordable to live here.
