Opinion: Corporate greed takes off

Roger Davenport, Southern RiverComment News

WHO is telling the truth?

For a change, we are not questioning the word of the political elite. It is private enterprise whose word is questionable – the cost of adapting the terminals for Qantas to introduce long haul flights non-stop flights on the London-Perth route and later expanding into Europe.

Qantas says the cost would be about $25 million and Perth Airport Corporation seem to think it would be more like $40 million.

Obviously, the Corporation’s executive are only interested in pandering to its shareholders, and don’t give a damn about the long-term benefits to West Australians.

This is the problem when major infrastructure is handed over to private investment. No wonder people don’t like to see State assets sold off.
