Opinion: Offensive to label Armadale as dole bludger

HAVING spent most of my life in this area, I can state without any doubt that the majority of Armadale residents are hard-working, decent people.

The Federal Government’s labelling of Armadale as a dole bludger hot spot in its national list of shame is offensive and Human Services Minister Alan Tudge should apologise immediately.

The Armadale workforce is more than 43,000 strong, with 188 apparently not meeting work for the dole requirements.

While no one should deliberately flout the system, I would be interested to know the individual circumstances of the 188 and exactly how much has been done to assist them into work.

Perhaps Alan Tudge should consider compiling a list of shame of the nation’s top 30 suburbs which have the highest use of tax avoidance schemes.

I believe he may just find that the figures are much higher for those avoiding paying their fair share of tax than the 0.5 per cent of Armadale residents allegedly avoiding work.
