Opinion: Tribute to our daughter

For months we have been watching the progress of the new parklands that incorporates Shipwreck Park on Forrest Road in Sienna Woods, Hilbert.

As it gets closer to completion we would like to acknowledge how proud we are of our daughter Melissa, a person with a disability who knows what is needed and never gives up until she achieves her goal and who originally instigated a project like this.

During Melissa’s term as an Armadale Councillor she persisted and insisted that the City of Armadale needed an area like no other – an all-abilities park with equipment for children and adults with disabilities.

Melissa has always been passionate that infrastructure be accessible and for people with disabilities.

During her time as a councillor she fought for and secured commitment from Armadale Council for such a park to be established and when Stockland were looking at what park they were conceiving it all fell into place, so with the help of Melissa and some wonderful City of Armadale staff and the Touched by Olivia Foundation this wonderful park will be enjoyed by families from all over Armadale.

Well done Melissa, we are proud of your commitment.
