Armadale finish 2018 NPL WA in 10th after loss to Cockburn City

Jessica NicoComment News

ARMADALE has finished the 2018 NPL WA season in 10th after a 4-1 loss to Cockburn City on Saturday afternoon.

Armadale had the ascendancy early in the game after Chris Jackson took just seven minutes to volley home a goal, sending his team 1-0 up.

But from that point on it was all Cockburn, with goals in the 28th, 36th, 67th and 82nd minute securing a big win and sending them into the post-season Top Four Cup competition.

In some good news for the club, Jackson was named joint winner of the Golden Boot alongside ECU Joondalup’s Daryl Nicol, with both players scoring 24 goals during the season.

Armadale coach John O’Reilly said despite his team losing the last four matches he was happy with the season overall, which included winning the Belt Up Cup.

“We’ve won silverware this year, Chris Jackson is the equal top goal scorer and we’ve had a trip to Cairns in the round of 32 of the FFA Cup,” he said.

“So it’s been an incredibly successful season for Armadale and now we’ve got to kick on from here next year.

“Going forward we don’t want to be content with just surviving so now we need to leap forward and look to be in contention for those top four places.”
