Soccer: Armadale gets needed NPLWA win on board against ECU Joondalup

Jessica NicoComment News

ARMADALE is back on the winner’s list after a 2-1 win over ECU Joondalup in round 8 of the National Premier Leagues WA (NPLWA).

Without a win since round 1, Armadale was ready to fight for an away win when it ran on to the ECU Joondalup Football Stadium pitch.

Up against an opposition that hadn’t lost a game all season, Armadale was the first to hit the scoreboard after Chris Jackson finished a left-wing cross from Charlie Kenna in the 25th minute.

That goal was all that separated the two teams until the 61st minute when Ali Gholami made it 2-0 after burying a long shot into the back of the net.

ECU Joondalup got back into the game with a goal just three minutes later, but Armadale was able to hold on for the much-needed win.

Jackson said the team did the right things at the right times and credited the players’ hard work for the win.

“The work rate of the midfield was great; all three of them were absolutely energetic,” he said.

The win sees Armadale jump from 13th to 12th on the NPLWA ladder ahead of its big round 9 match against 11th-placed Subiaco this weekend.

Kick off is at 3pm April 21 at Alfred Skeet Reserve.
