Hosted by Mundijong Centrals Junior Football Club, the event was held to help raise money for one of the club’s footy mums, Janine Johnson, who is currently undergoing treatment for breast cancer in Germany.

Club youth registrar Georgina Elphinstone said more than 300 people turned out for the day, which included raffles, family activities and the highly anticipated football match in which the clubs’ coaches were pitted against each other.

‘It was a very close game, with the Auskick coaches team, captained by Ben King, winning by one point,’ she said.

‘However the president and captain of the junior/youths team Lindsay Atwell told his players that they did OK considering the other team had Colts and Reserves players helping them.’

The final score was 9.9 (63) to 9.10 (64).

Mrs Elphinstone said the final figures were still being counted, but it was a ‘very successful day’ supported by the junior and senior clubs. Armadale Football Club also provided alternative jumpers for the day.

‘A big thank you to all our members, sponsors, players and helpers on the day,’ she said.

‘So great to see our community come together when someone needs a helping hand.’

All the money raised from Coaches for a Cause will go towards Mrs Johnson’s cancer treatment and travel costs, estimated to be about $70,000.
