Eleven for Sydney taekwondo meet

The club will provide almost half of the 24-member team.

The selection trials were held in Perth on April 26 and 27, with competitors from all over Australia.

Maddington instructor Ross Hartnett, an eighth dan black belt, has a stellar record in taekwondo, from being a national and international champion as an athlete to becoming national and Olympic coach.

Carmela Hartnett, a seventh dan black belt who teaches taekwondo Oh Do Kwan at venues in Maddington, Canning Vale and Leeming, has won two gold medals, one silver and four bronze from various world championships.

Kasia Majewski is an experienced international competitor and Shahida Hill has won selection for the third time to the national team.

Byford instructor Neil Brickwood won a silver medal at the selection trials and Byford Oh Do Kwan student Taj Boiuwis won a bronze medal.

The club’s team of 13 won 17 gold medals, four silver medals and two bronze medals at the trials.
