THE summer of cricket might be ending, but at the Gosnells Cricket Club the hunt for young local talent to join their ranks continues.

With 30 years in the WA Premier Cricket competition under their belt, the club has been the home of former WA batsman Luke Pomersbach as well as Big Bash League rising star D’Arcy Short of the Hobart Hurricanes.

Club president Ross Leipold said Gosnells had one of the most talented junior programs in the competition, with three of their four junior teams sitting in the top echelon of their respective competitions with finals just weeks away.

But while the current season draws towards an exciting close, the club is already planning for next season with the start of their 2018-19 junior trials this month.

“Numbers continue to be strong on the back of big numbers of junior trialling each season – anywhere up to 60 young community cricketers come down to trial for the opportunity to play in WA’s Premier Cricket competition,” Leipold said.

“As part of the WACA pathway for girls, junior community clubs in our district have teams that then feed into the WACA club and we are hoping to field one or two junior girls teams in the WACA competition next season.”

Leipold said Gosnells was the perfect starting block for young crickets looking to play for their state or country.

“For those aspiring to one day play for WA or Australia, Gosnells forms part of the cricket pathway and this is the next step in fulfilling their dream one day,” he said.

“The Gosnells Cricket Club provides a fantastic opportunity for young cricketers to continue their cricketing pathway to achieve maximum results from their abilities.

“Cricket now caters for all levels of abilities and preferences and from the long to short forms of cricket, there is much more choice for young players to choose from.”

The club will be holding U13, U14, U15 and U17 trials for the 2018/19 season between February 19 and March 28, with a zone carnival for U11, U12 and U13 players not currently in the district system scheduled for March 5.
