Kelmscott Junior Football Club looking for new recruits in 2018

Jessica NicoComment News

WHEN it comes to local sport, there are few with as long and strong a history as the Kelmscott Junior Football Club.

Originally part of the Kelmscott Football Club, the Bulldogs have been operating in one form or another for more than 120 years and have recently seen AFL names like brothers Callum Ah Chee (Gold Coast) and Brandon Ah Chee (former Port Adelaide, now West Coast), as well as former Brisbane Lion Matthew Moody, rise through their ranks.

The club celebrated a strong 2017 season with record player numbers in the Year 3, 10, 11 and 12 teams and also awarded three life memberships to 150-game player Quade Broughton and club stalwarts Rob and Michelle Thomas.

With a newly renovated clubroom to enjoy, Kelmscott JFC president Megan Roso said the Bulldogs were now turning their attention to season 2018 and new recruits.

“In 2018 we will be nominating a minimum of 15 teams all up – last year we had several girls playing for us from Auskick to year 7 and we hope to host our first all-female team this season,” she said.

“Players are taught respect, resilience, responsibility, loyalty and mateship as they stick with their teams through thick and thin, rain, hail and shine.

“We believe we are a premier club for kids to join, having won many premiership flags throughout our long club history, we care about our players and their families greatly and welcome kids with varying ability.

“Whilst we have many extremely talented players within our club, we believe that all kids deserve a fair chance to learn and play the sport they love and the most important thing we ask a player to show is ‘Bulldog Spirit and Pride’.”

Kelmscott JFC will hold registration days at the John Dunn Memorial Park club rooms on February 10 and 18 from 12pm to 4pm.
