Late equaliser holds Armadale in NPLWA soccer

Jessica NicoComment News

A VICTORY slipped out of Armadale’s grasp thanks to a last-minute equaliser from Subiaco in Saturday’s NPLWA soccer action.

An arm wrestle in the first half had both teams goalless at the break, but the deadlock was broken in the 56th minute when Armadale captain Nathan Costello sent a header past the ‘keeper after a well-delivered corner.

The pressure returned just five minutes later when Subiaco equalised through Asher Nelson.

Armadale earned a free-kick with just five minutes left.

David Annall’s set piece somehow missed everyone and hit the back of the net, sending Armadale 2-1 up and headed towards what many assumed would be a hard-fought win.

However Subiaco were able to claw out the 2-2 draw after David Perich connected with a long throw-in to score in the 90th minute.

Armadale have now won two and drawn three from the opening nine rounds, sitting just above wooden spooners Joondalup United on the ladder.

They next take on Floreat Athena at E&D Litus Stadium from 3pm on April 28.
