ARMADALE SC fell 4-1 to an Arran Maplestone-inspired Joondalup United at Percy Doyle Reserve in round 13 of the NPL WA on Saturday.

United captain Maplestone bagged a superb hattrick to propel his side to seventh on the table.

Despite the scores being level at half time, a superb second half effort by Joondalup proved the difference.

Joshua Tumoe almost gave Armadale an early lead, only for Tony Taylor to make a vital intervention on the goal line.

The hosts broke the deadlock a minute later when Richard Howles set up Maplestone for a tap in.

Joondalup almost doubled its score on the half hour mark when Maplestone’s attempt ricocheted off the underside of the woodwork, but it was ruled to have not crossed the goal line.

Soon after, Costello equalised when he headed home from a corner.

However, three minutes into the second half, the game turned in United’s favour when Maplestone curled home a brilliant free kick.

Six minutes later, Wild made it three, finding space in the penalty area to thump into the back of the net.

To Armadale’s dismay, Maplestone completed his hattrick in the 68th minute with a deflected free kick which wrong-footed goalkeeper Michael Craggs.

It went from bad to worse for the away side ten minutes from time, when Tumoe was shown a red card.
