THE Perth Metro Central Firebirds are trying to raise funds to head to the eastern states for a national tournament after coming third in the 2016 Junior League Sate Championship.
The team is made up of 13 and 14 year old players from the southern suburbs, including Gosnells, Armadale, Canning, Victoria Park and Serpentine-Jarrahdale.
They were pipped at the post to finish third , which was still enough to qualify for the Junior League National Championships to be held in South Australia in May.
Each player must raise $3000 in order to attend and the team has already begun fundraising by hosting sausage sizzles.
City of Gosnells has contributed to players within the City through its Community Sponsorship Program.
Cassandra Leivers, whose son James received $200 as part of the program, encouraged other residents to consider the option if their child is looking to go and play sport interstate or overseas.
