Peter more than a pacesetter

In 2010, one of Peter’s peers at St Norbert College in Queens Park nominated him to take part in the inter-house athletics carnival.

Unsure of the distances Peter could run, college teachers asked him to run a lap around the oval with the other competitors, he won by 100 meters.

Peter came from a large migrant family, who did not have the funds to help his running with the shoes and gear required.

Peter’s parents were notified about his potential and soon after Peter was given two new pairs of running shoes, donated by the college.

Since then, Peter has competed in Sydney for the Australian Junior Championships, competed in the National Championships held in Perth and will compete in the National Championships in Sydney this April.

Peter has also been selected by Athletics Australia to travel to Italy and Germany for training experience and competitions in July.

The athlete said starting at St Norbert was the best thing he had ever done.

‘I never thought I would be competing for national titles in Australia,’ he said.

‘I now follow Australian rankings and WA rankings and I dream that one day my name will be up there with the other athletes.’

Peter is also completing a Bachelor of Science in Construction Management and Economics at Curtin University.
