Ben SmithComment News

ARKS Rugby Union Club made it back-to-back wins with an 18-0 thrashing of Swan Subrubs at Harrisdale Field.

In a dominant performance, ARKS started strongly and refused to let up the intensity to close out the game comfortably.

Their pack controlled the scrum all day long, while second rowers Joe Kapua and Ray Edwards were superb at the line-out.

Despite some strong defence from Swan, Storme Takuta opened the scoring for ARKS with a penalty, before tries to Manaia Waler and Will Wade extended the lead to 13-0 at half time.

Swan again defended bravely in the second half, frustrating ARKS but ultimately unable to trouble the scorers.

Walker’s second try of the afternoon sealed victory for the hosts.

ARKS’ B Grade side enjoyed a thrilling win over Bunbury Barbarians, prevailing 29-28 thanks to a late Sam Webby try.

Tuscany Hale’s converted try and a Jordan Hohpea penalty put ARKS in control early, although several opportunities to extend the lead went begging.

Despite Hohpea crossing for a try, Bunbury stole a try of their own through Kaufusi Moataane to trail 15-7 at the break.

The Barbarians took over in the second half as converted tries to Moataane, Siasoi Muli and Paulo Tupou gave them a 28-22 lead with just minutes to go.

However, Webby crossed under the posts late to give Hohpea an easy conversion to win the game.

ARKS under-20’s side again succumbed to defeat, going down 60-0 to Nedlands in a bruising encounter.

ARKS travel to Curtin on June 10 for the A and B Grade clashes, with the under-20s travelling to Perth-Bayswater.
