Francis CurroComment News

SJ Blues defeated Maddington in Second Grade on Saturday to consolidate second spot on the ladder.

Maddington won the toss and elected to bat and were going along nicely at 1-70.

Sharp fielding by SJ saw two batsmen run out and tight bowing brought SJ back into the match at 6-104.

A lower-order fightback put some respectability back into the score as Maddington finished their 40 overs at 9-184.

Damien Leipold (1-17) and Thomas Keefe (1-27) bowled with great economy from their eight-over spells.

An aggressive opening partnership of 83 set SJ on their way.

This was highlighted by a fine knock of 79 from Kane Hoskin, who hit 11 fours and a six.

Despite a middle-order collapse, Brendan Erceg (24) and Brad Chalmers (24) knuckled down to take SJ to victory with a total of 9-211.

This Saturday all SJ Blues sides resume, with Second Grade away to Hilton-Palmyra, Fifth Grade host East Fremantle, 1C travel to Kwinana and IG are home to Piara Waters.
