Waight (23) was involved in an on-field collision that has left him partially paralysed.
Donations 4 Damo, held on match day at Clifton Oval in Canning Vale, earned about $30,000 for Waight through tin-shaking, donated catering, raffles and an auction for appeal.
Club president Stewart Johnston said there was some more cash from the auction to be counted and the club had already raised about $7000 in donations before match day.
He expected a total close to $40,000.
Unexpected donations for the auction included a 1914 bugle mounted in a case and a boxing glove signed by Muhammad Ali.
‘On such short notice, it’s been a real team effort,’ he said.
He said the accident had come at the worst possible time for Waight, who was in the middle of building a house.
