ILUKA is set to get a $6 million three-storey apartment block after planning approval this week.
The Metro North-West Development Assessment Panel conditionally approved Helm Living’s plans for a 24-unit development overlooking Burns Beach Road on March 5.
The decision comes days before the panel is due to consider plans for the $8 million Iluka Plaza commercial development on the adjoining land on O’Mara Boulevard.

PANEL UPHOLDS INFILL REJECTION
However, panel member Chris Antill said there were misconceptions about people’s rights and got confirmation from City of Joondalup staff that there was no guarantee views would be retained if people bought near vacant blocks.
Helm Living owner Jarrad Sizer said there were currently no options for people in Iluka to downsize and remain in the area they loved, which the apartments would offer.
He said the developer held more than 30 meetings with nearby residents to address issues.
One of the conditions required the developer to provide a sixth visitor parking bay, and others related to construction management, access to the secure parking lot, waste management and landscaping.
The panel is scheduled to consider a recommendation to conditionally approve plans for the two-storey Iluka Plaza in Perth on Monday morning.
The proposal includes nine tenancies for shops, cafes or restaurants, consulting rooms or offices, a gym and a childcare premises.
It also includes 143 parking bays, with access via Burns Beach Road.
The March 11 agenda said the City received 113 submissions during public consultation earlier this year, with 88 objecting to the proposal.
