Mandurah locals team up to support Hero For HeartKids Day by channeling their inner superpowers by dressing up as their favourite superhero for the day.

To celebrate the eighth Hero For HeartKids Day, Friday, June 17, communities and businesses Australia-wide were encouraged to dress up as their favourite superhero for the day and raise money for children living with congenital heart disease.

Every day in Australia there are eight children born with a heart defect, which means there is one family every three hours whose life will change in a heartbeat.

Conditions are lifelong with no known cure and many children require ongoing treatment, including open-heart surgeries, throughout their life.

This year TreeTops Zipline in Dwellingup got behind the cause in a big way, with its staff dressing up in their most impressive superhero outfits and inviting the public to visit TreeTops over the weekend as their favourite superhero to help raise much-needed funds and awareness.

For every ticket sold between June 18-19, $2 was to be donated to HeartKids.

HeartKids CEO Fiona Ellis said: “Hero for HeartKids is an opportunity for the Australian community to harness their superhuman powers and be a positive force, directly helping seriously ill children and their families.

“HeartKids is there to ensure Australian children, teens and adults affected by congenital or childhood-acquired heart disease have a fighting chance to live a long, healthy, and fulfilling life.”

Dwellingup park manager Ryan Hansen said all the staff loved getting involved with the Hero For HeartKids initiative over the weekend.

“Seeing the excitement on each kid’s face as they see that their favourite superhero is going to be taking them for their training, the joy it brings people to see Spiderman swinging through the trees to rescue them when they’re stuck or Thor making them a coffee is only part of why we love it,” Mr Hansen said.

“What we really love is that we get to do all of this and simultaneously be raising funds and awareness for such a worthy cause in HeartKids.

“The work they do is phenomenal and if we can be a part of that by simply wearing a costume for the weekend and raising some funds, of course we’re going to get involved,” Mr Hansen said.

Funds raised from the weekend event at TreeTops Zipline are still being tallied.
